Ternakin’s Journey: Building Smarter, More Inclusive, and Responsible Aquaculture
At Ternakin, we believe that healthy and productive fish farming can go hand in hand with environmental and community responsibility. We bring this vision to life through:
- Leveraging smart sensor technology and operational digitalization to help fish farmers across Indonesia improve efficiency, transparency, and access to markets and financing.
- Empowering women in aquaculture — although the industry remains male-dominated, we intentionally involve women in our operations, particularly in the fish filleting process. The majority of workers in this stage are women, including those employed by our contract manufacturing partners, ensuring decent job opportunities and promoting greater gender equity in the fisheries sector.
- Turning fish byproducts into value-added products as part of our circular economy commitment:
- 30% fish bones are processed into fish meal for animal feed. While the wet price is around IDR 1,000/kg, processing significantly increases its value while reducing dependency on imported feed.
- 15% trimmings are sold for approximately IDR 8,000/kg and used as raw materials for culinary products such as fish siomay.
- 5% fish skin is sold for around IDR 6,000/kg to be made into crispy fish crackers, popular in both local and export markets.
- Promoting sustainable and inclusive aquaculture practices that prioritize innovation, environmental stewardship, improved farmer livelihoods, and local economic growth.

Through these steps, Ternakin continues to contribute to sustainable aquaculture in Indonesia — driven by innovation, inclusivity, and a long-term positive impact on communities and the environment.
Being selected for the KINETIK Sweef Program is a meaningful opportunity for our team to learn and grow. It’s also a reminder that the small steps we take every day to support fish farmers can be part of a broader movement toward more sustainable and inclusive aquaculture practices.
